1. Fallow

Website: https://fallowrestaurant.com/
Address: 52 Haymarket
Contact: +442080171788
Hours: Monday-Friday 7:30 AM-11:00 PM; Saturday 9:00 AM-11:00 PM; Sunday 11:30 AM-10:00 PM
Fallow is a spectacular spot in Haymarket if you want to experience environmentally conscious gastronomy that uses sustainable kitchen practices.
Their inventive culinary team works wonders with ingredients that often go to waste. For instance, they transform them into creative dishes like piggy toast, mushroom parfait, smoked cod’s head, and British octopus crumpet, which receive plenty of praise.
They also offer an enlightened drinks list designed to complement the bold flavours beautifully. Overall, this is an excellent place to grab dinner before heading out to catch a hilarious show at nearby comedy clubs.
On the flip side, the venue’s immense popularity makes securing a table booking highly competitive. The energetic dining room also gets quite noisy during peak evening hours, making quiet conversation a bit tricky.

The mushroom parfait was the best surprise
Our experience at Fallow was amazing!
We were on our first trip to London and the staff was so kind about it. The host and our waiter Stan gave us good advice about wine and which plates to order as well.
The mushroom parfait was the best surprise! Didn’t expect it to be SO good! The same goes to the Chelsea tart, very delicious.
Recommend Fallow to everyone and, for sure, was on of the highlights of our trip.

Delicious, splendid
Fantastic birthday meal. Atmosphere was spot on: energetic but not overstimulating, great mix of all ages, and attentive staff.
We got 3 starters: corn ribs, beef ribs, and mushroom parfait. Delicious. Cods head and sirloin for mains. Splendid.
Our server Josh C went above and beyond to make us feel special. He made me feel very happy. Super lovely and super attentive. He’s a star.
Thank you Fallow!

2. Rules

Website: https://rules.co.uk/
Address: 35 Maiden Lane, Covent Garden
Hours: Monday-Thursday, Sunday 12:00-10:00 PM; Friday-Saturday 12:00-11:30 PM
Rules operates as the oldest dining establishment in the city, focusing on traditional heritage and history when you wander into Covent Garden.
What’s impressive about this restaurant is that they maintain a rich culinary legacy spanning more than two centuries.
They specialise in classic British cuisine here. Some popular options on their menu include duck rillettes, steak & kidney pudding, roast breast of Guinea fowl, braised ox cheeks, braised shoulder of lamb, and rump steak.
A colleague who dined here recently raved about the historic atmosphere that has hosted famous literary figures.
The venue also features gorgeous private dining rooms. These spaces work wonderfully for intimate gatherings. It’s a stellar choice for a historic night out.
That said, the traditional menu offerings are heavily oriented towards game and classic meat dishes. This focus limits choices for anyone seeking lighter international options.
The deeply traditional decor can also feel a bit formal, which isn’t for you if you prefer a relaxed modern atmosphere.

We left absolute stuffed
Took some American friends for lunch. The food was delicious, we had the potted shrimp, steak and kidney pie, steak, venison and pheasant, alongside silver tankards of cold Guinness. The service was excellent, formal but friendly and we left absolute stuffed. Would go back again.

The food is traditional and delicious
My rule is rather simple, if a restaurant could continue operating for a couple hundreds years, it has to be good. It is not cheap and somehow touristic but so what? The place is a museum and the food is traditional and delicious. The wine list is simple and featuring some interesting French wine imported directly.

3. Blacklock

Website: https://theblacklock.com/
Address: 24 Great Windmill Street
Contact: +44 20 3441 6996
Hours: Monday-Friday 12:00-3:00 PM | 5:00-10:30 PM; Saturday 12:00 PM-10:30 PM; Sunday 11:45 AM-8:00 PM
Blacklock is tucked away in a lively Soho corner, celebrating the traditional chophouse by serving premium meat cuts prepared on the bone. Their selection highlights quality over variety, featuring staples like pork loin, lamb T-bone, lamb cutlets, and pork ribs.
The kitchen team champions traditional chophouse methods, utilising open-fire preparation that fills the room with an inviting, savoury aroma.
The venue itself is unpretentious and familiar, designed to make guests feel comfortable the moment they arrive. To keep dining accessible, they also offer value-driven lunch and dinner menus on designated days.
However, be aware that the menu is strictly focused on meat and chop-based dishes; those following a plant-based diet will find very few options here.
Additionally, the subterranean basement setting lacks natural daylight, so expect a dark, moody atmosphere even during the daytime.

Had an incredible time, we came for our 4 year anniversary and they were kind enough to have our dessert on the house. We also came on a Monday so there was an great deal on the big chops dishes. The sides were very good too, we had the sweet potato and chips. definitely recommend!!

4. Ekstedt at The Yard

Website: https://ekstedtattheyard.com/
Address: 3-5 Great Scotland Yard
Contact: 020 7925 4749
Hours: Tuesday-Saturday 6:00 PM-9:30 PM; Sunday 12:30 PM-2:30 PM
Ekstedt at The Yard uses fire-led cooking techniques with a wood-fired oven and stove, avoiding electrical or gas methods entirely.
What is interesting is that this innovative kitchen team employs a unique Nordic-inspired approach to fire cooking. During our fantastic dinner here last week, watching the expert chefs manage the open flames was completely mesmerising.
The immersive environment makes it an unforgettable culinary adventure!
As for the food, they focus heavily on seasonal British produce here. If you want to experience their wood-smoke flavour that infuses almost every dish, order the juniper-smoked lamb, hay-smoked Mangalitza pork, and hot-smoked Cornish fish.
Just note that their limited opening hours mean there’s no possibility of a weekly lunch visit.

The food was outstanding
What an absolutely perfect meal and evening.
The food was outstanding. Each dish had something unique that elevated the main part of it.
The service was impeccable. So friendly and attentive
The ambience and decor was so modern but cosy at the same time.

Absolutely everything was perfect
It would be a shame to give this place just 4 stars — I’m not even talking about 3 or 2.
Absolutely everything was perfect, from the service to the food, and how we were treated.
They even invited us into the kitchen, which was a very special experience. Each dish was better than the one before — truly impressive.
I always choose restaurants very carefully, and I can proudly say that this one is going straight to the top of my list.
The atmosphere was also really pleasant.
Definitely coming back.

5. OMA

Website: https://www.oma.london/
Address: 2 – 4 Bedale Street, SE1 9AL
Contact: +44 2081296760
Hours: Monday-Friday 12:00-3:00 PM | 5:30-11:00 PM; Saturday 12:00-11:00 PM; Sunday 12:00-10:00 PM
OMA is located right beside Borough Market, drawing inspiration from the simplicity of the Greek Isles and the flavours of the Levant. Set within a carefully restored building, the venue offers a beautiful terrace space for relaxing outdoor seating.
They also provide convenient split service times during the week. It’s a great setup for both lunch and evening diners.
As for the menu, they serve dishes such as oxtail giouvetsi with bone marrow, dry-aged Cornish lamb, and txuleta ribeye. They also feature a brilliant wine list with over 400 options highlighting coastal minerality.
On the other hand, because this place is in such a bustling market area, you should expect a higher noise level and heavy foot traffic. Finding a spot on the popular terrace during a warm weekend afternoon can also mean enduring a rather lengthy wait.

A 10/10 meal in London! Our server, I think his name was maybe Matt, was lovely and very helpful, with a good sense of humour. The food was insane – loved every dish!! Would definitely return. I much preferred it to Agora downstairs, though both are nice. Was lovely sitting on the terrace overlooking borough market – definitely recommend

Incredibly rich in flavour
Great option for Mediterranean elevated concept.
Lots of options to build your dinner, and the food was really good!
We ordered too much as we underestimated the sizes.
The breads and spreads are a must- if your in the mood for a light dinner and drinks – this might do it.
The smalls are good portions, bold flavours.
The lamb on the large dishes was fantastic, and the Oxtail is very good, but also incredibly rich in flavour – don’t wait to the end of the dinner to have, it should be a mid course.
