The 5 Best Cupcake Stores in London That Deliver Pure Joy in a Wrapper

  • Quality of Ingredients: A great bake starts with high-quality butter and free-range eggs. We checked if the bakeries use fresh ingredients for their sponges and frostings.

  • Flavour Variety: Sticking to just vanilla and chocolate gets boring quickly. We looked for shops offering classic favourites alongside fun flavour combinations.

  • Visual Appeal: You eat with your eyes first. We evaluated the piping techniques and overall packaging aesthetics for gifting.

  • Customisation Options: Party planners and gift seekers often need custom colours. We noted which places let you build your own boxes.

  • Location and Convenience: Getting your sugar fix shouldn't feel like a chore. We considered the accessibility of their physical shops and delivery services.

London’s food scene is genuinely tough to top. While you’re probably busy exploring the city’s top restaurants, don’t forget to save room for dessert.

To sample the best cupcakes in London, skip the boring supermarket options and find passionate local bakers who craft every batch from scratch.

So, if you’re after gorgeous treats for your Insta-feed or just want a late-night snack, the local bakeshop scene has some incredible choices waiting for you. Check out our top picks below!

Address: 18 Neal Street, Covent Garden

Contact: 020 4586 6415

Hours: Mon–Thu 8:00 AM–8:30 PM; Fri 8:00 AM–9:00 PM; Sat 9:00 AM–9:00 PM; Sun 10:00 AM–8:00 PM

Lola’s brings all your favourite sweet treats together under one roof, offering fresh cupcakes and hot coffee. The recently renovated bakery lets you customise your own box, making it easy to pick up a gift or treat.

Their bakers hand-finish every single treat each morning to ensure maximum freshness.

One client we spoke with recently grabbed a gluten-free salted caramel sponge and said the frosting melted beautifully in their mouth.

They sell bite-sized mini versions too, if you just want a quick snack.

However, changes to an existing order require at least two days’ notice by 4:00 PM.

Additionally, having several small kiosks around the city can confuse tourists looking for this specific bakery.

Pros

  • Combines coffee and cupcakes
  • Custom build-your-own box options
  • Gluten-free choices available
  • Hand-finished fresh daily

Cons

  • Strict two-day notice for order changes
  • Multiple branches cause location confusion

Customer Reviews

It was a lovely treat, with a soft and moist sponge and a genuine banana flavour that was well balanced

Visited Lola’s Cupcakes in Covent Garden during a lunch break with a colleague and decided to try the banana cupcake. It was a lovely treat, with a soft and moist sponge and a genuine banana flavour that was well balanced. The buttercream was smooth and complemented the cake nicely without making it feel overly sweet. The staff were polite and helpful, and the service was quick despite it being a busy time of day.

They have many vegan options also

A small cupcake shop on a busy pathway. It’s got lot of options. They have many vegan options also.

The sales person was very kind. They made sure we did not have any allergy.

Ordered a salted caramel chocolate cupcake. The centre was caramel filled and cake was chocolaty. 😀

Good cupcakes here

Good cupcakes here but skip the cookies as they were flat in flavor. We tried all 6 of the mini cupcakes and enjoyed them all except the birthday cake. For cookies, we got red velvet, birthday cake, and biscoff and we didn’t like any of them

Their cupcakes r so cute, moist and flavorful

Their cupcakes r so cute, moist and flavorful. Best thing is that there r different flavors and holiday specials so u can always get something new never get enough!!! The mini cupcakes r also super nice for a small treat for yourself. Very delightful. Their cookies r humongous and so tasty as well. We got the chocolate raspberry one. The decadent dark chocolate and the acidity and fruitiness of the raspberry jam paired really well together. LOVE

I can honestly say this is the best cupcake shop I’ve ever visited!

I can honestly say this is the best cupcake shop I’ve ever visited! From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with the warm, sweet aroma of freshly baked treats and a beautifully displayed selection of cupcakes that almost look too good to eat.

Every flavor I tried was incredible — perfectly moist cake, rich and flavorful frosting, and just the right balance of sweetness. The staff is just as delightful as the cupcakes — friendly, welcoming, and happy to help with recommendations.

We were served by Arav and the service was exceptional from start to finish

We were served by Arav and the service was exceptional from start to finish. We ordered five cupcakes and a lemon loaf and everything was fresh and delicious. Arav was incredibly friendly, attentive and made us feel very welcome throughout our visit. He even went out of his way to help us take some lovely photos, which made the experience even more memorable.

Cupcakes were lovely (according to my daughter)

Having been let down by an online order for my daughters birthday, I ordered some cupcakes from Jack and beyond to be delivered to my daughters work.  Order to delivery in less than an hour and one surprised daughter.  Cupcakes were lovely (according to my daughter).  Thank you for excellent service.

Oh, and the cupcakes were absolutely FANTASTIC!!

We placed a delivery order of 24 delicious cupcakes and due to some local events the 3rd party delivery service had to cancel the delivery the day of scheduled order….one of the team members at Jack & Beyond took it upon herself to deliver the cupcakes to us, which was unbelievable service. Truly above and beyond (see what I did there…) customer service. THANK YOU!! Oh, and the cupcakes were absolutely FANTASTIC!!
