5 Best Private Swim Schools London Kids Actually Enjoy Attending
I totally agree with Michael Phelps when he said, “Swimming is normal for me. I’m relaxed. I’m comfortable, and I know my surroundings.”
Because let’s be honest, no one feels that way the first time they’re clinging to the pool wall while everyone else seems to glide through the water like it’s nothing.
Yes, you can watch tutorials, buy goggles, and tell yourself you’ll figure it out eventually. But the real confidence comes in the pool, when a coach adjusts your breathing, your toddler kicks without fear, or you finally float without panicking.
That’s why I’ve listed the best private swimming schools in London that make learning doable for different ages, budgets, and comfort levels.
How much does a swimming lesson cost in London?
In London, swimming lessons typically cost between £3.50 and £130 per session.Fees vary depending on the setup, with council pools and local leisure centers sitting on the more affordable side. One-to-one coaching and premium travel instructors are usually at the top of the price range. Small-group swim schools often charge around £15 to £30 for a 30-minute class, while parent and baby programmes range from £8 to £25 per visit.
1. LearnToSWIM

Website: https://www.learntoswim.co.uk/
Address: Fitness First Cottons, Cottons Centre, Tooley St, London Bridge
Contact: 020 7870 7969
Hours: Monday to Friday: Earliest Lesson Start 6:35am, Latest Lesson Start 8:35pm (Friday 7:35pm) ; Saturday & Sunday: Earliest Lesson Start 8:35am, Latest Lesson Start 6:35pm
I like how this swim school makes lessons feel less intimidating for adult beginners, especially those nervous about the deep end.
The benefit of this setup became clearer when I spoke with one of their head instructors at the London Bridge location. They explained how every session is built around customised, individual attention.
Their one-to-one and two-to-one lessons are especially helpful because the coach gets into the water with you instead of just calling instructions from the poolside.
You also get an entire lane booked exclusively for your session, giving you enough space to practice without dodging casual swimmers.
Schedules are incredibly flexible too, running from early morning until late at night.
Just remember to bring your own towel, though, since renting one on-site comes with a mandatory £2 fee.

2. SwimWay Swimming School

Website: https://www.swimway.co.uk/
Address: Unit 15 (Ground Floor), Northfields Prospect
Contact: +442088713972
Hours: Monday to Friday: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM; Saturday to Sunday: 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM
SwimWay Swimming School is a highly structured option for parents who want their kids to build strong aquatic skills early. They focus on natural balance rather than bulky armbands or standard buoyancy aids.
I like that children use kickboards to develop real confidence in the water, helping them feel secure without taking shortcuts.
The class setup also stands out. Groups are strictly capped at four children per instructor, so every child gets enough direct feedback during lessons.
You’ll also find intensive holiday courses, which are great for faster improvement during school breaks.
On top of that, the program keeps core stroke mechanics at the centre of training.
Just keep in mind that holiday blocks require the same timeslot every day for a full week, which can be hard to manage.

Swimway is probably the best place for kids learning swimming
Swimway is probably the best place for kids learning swimming. We tried many different suppliers but only wish had started with Swimway earlier. Arthur is a fantastic swimming teacher, who is always hardworking, precise and providing on-the-spot corrections during each lesson, not even 1 minute wasted. We have noticed great improvements and achievement just after 10 weekly lessons with my 9 year old boy. Super happy and highly recommend !!!

3. GetSetSwim Putney

Address: Tileman House, 129 Upper Richmond Rd
Contact: 02080500070

If you want a swim school that’s gentle for younger kids, this facility deserves serious consideration. It offers a modern, eco-friendly pool that stays heated to a comfortable 31°C.
I like how this setup makes parent-and-baby groups feel much easier, especially when little ones are sensitive to cold water. The advanced ultraviolet (UV) filtration complements this by keeping the water gentle on young skin.
You can also follow your child’s weekly progress through their dedicated HomePortal client application, so it’s easy to stay updated without constantly asking the instructor.
Though if your schedule tends to change a lot, their strict absence policy might feel limiting. In addition, they only allow a maximum of two makeup classes per year.

Marcelo is an awesome swim coach for our two boys! He makes every lesson fun and encouraging, and both kids have gone from splashing around nervously to swimming confidently in just a few weeks. Could not be happier
My three kids had lesson with Icaro since they were little a. Icaro has been great teaching them great technique and keeping up their enthusiasm for the swimming. We followed him wherever he went as they didn’t want to swim with anyone else but him. Could not be happier for them to have him as a teacher.

4. The Swim Vault

Website: https://www.theswimvault.com/
Address: Stebon Primary School, Wallwood Street, Poplar
Contact: +44 7457 402 958
Hours: Tuesday, Friday: 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM, Sunday: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
For fundamentals-first swim training, choose this school.
The Swim Vault focuses on body position before you even enter the water, which can greatly accelerate your progress.
What I like most is the unique, theory-led approach. You don’t just jump straight into lessons; you can join interactive virtual meetings via webcam to learn core swimming concepts beforehand.
Their in-pool sessions are highly structured too, following official Swim England safety frameworks. This keeps classes organised, especially for youth swimmers.
They also offer gender-specific group lessons for students who feel more comfortable in that setup. Private parent-and-toddler slots are also available for children aged two to three.
The only limitation is the semi-private policy. If you want a two-to-one session, you’ll need to bring your own partner.

Extremely helpful
My daughter enjoyed her first swim lesson at Swim Vault today.
This swim school really takes the time to get to know you and your child. They are extremely helpful, answering all questions swiftly.
My daughter had lots of one to one guidance and this was made possible by the group size. She left feeling a sense of achievement with her little well done sticker. She had a great time and wanted. She is looking forward to next week.

5. Les Petits Dauphins

Website: http://www.lespetitsdauphins.co.uk/
Address: Chestnuts Primary School, La Rose Ln
Contact: 07867416249
Hours: Monday to Friday: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
This baby swim program is a lovely choice for parents who want their little ones introduced to the water in the gentlest way possible.
I like that classes here at Les Petits Dauphins start from just three months old, giving babies an early chance to get comfortable in the pool.
The lessons focus heavily on progressive floating techniques, so infants build confidence slowly instead of being rushed.
Another highlight for me is the playful teaching style. Instructors use songs, gentle splashing, and calm guidance to help babies enjoy their very first swim.
Group sizes are also kept small, with only six children per class, giving instructors enough room to watch every child closely.
Just be ready to book quickly, as the term courses run on a first-come, first-served basis, and spots disappear fast.

The lessons are not only good for children but very informative for parents
Both of my 2 boys started lessons when they were 6 months old and they love it! We had Carmen and Tina as teachers in different semesters and they are great. Especially my older son who is now 3, enjoys every lesson with Tina and now started to swim by himself. The lessons are not only good for children but very informative for parents to know how to support children and what is safe in the water. Strongly recommend.
