5 Best London General Contractors for Stress-Free Renovations
I’ve been canvassing London builders for a possible reno, and let’s just say the quotes can be as varied as the weather. One minute you’re discussing kitchen layouts, the next you’re decoding timelines, permits, and suspiciously vague extras.
Finding the best general contractor in London isn’t just about who can swing a hammer well. You want someone who can juggle trades, budgets and council requirements without turning your home into a never-ending building site.
These are the teams that I found stood out for solid work, clear communication, and making a big renovation feel slightly less daunting.
How much does it cost to hire a general contractor in London?
Hiring a general contractor in London usually costs around £200 to £350 per day for direct labour. Some contractors instead charge a management fee of roughly 10% to 20% of the total build cost.
| Total Build Budget | Typical Management Fee | Usually Covers |
| £20,000 | £3,000 | Trade scheduling, deliveries, and basic site supervision |
| £75,000 | £11,250 | Structural coordination, waste removal, and timeline management |
| £150,000 | £22,500 | Party wall coordination, council inspections, and sourcing materials |
| £250,000+ | £37,500+ | Full-time site management, safety compliance, and complex logistics |
For smaller jobs, a daily rate can be easier to budget for. Bigger renovations are more likely to use a percentage-based management fee.
1. Gurra Construction

- Website
- Address: 92A Wandsworth Bridge Rd
- Contact: +44 7452 804995 / [email protected]
- Hours: Monday–Friday, 8 AM – 5 PM | Saturday, 8 AM – 3 PM
If I were planning a serious renovation around Fulham, Gurra Construction would make my shortlist pretty quickly.
The team handles full refurbishments, extensions, loft conversions, remodelling, decorating and even garden design, which keeps plenty of moving parts under one roof.
I like that the company’s been around since 2012 and still presents itself as a relatively small operation.
That can make the whole process feel less corporate, especially when you’re juggling builders, materials and a house that suddenly looks like a demolition zone.
Their portfolio covers everything from kitchens and bathrooms to larger structural renovation work. It’s the sort of range that suits homeowners who’d rather deal with one main contractor than chase half a dozen separate trades.
The main drawback is weekend flexibility. They’re closed on Sundays, so anyone limited to weekends has a fairly narrow window for site visits or consultations.

Efficient, Tidy, and Great at Solving Problems
Ritvan and team did a wonderful job refurbishing our Fulham property. They met the deadlines required for us to move in on time and were very efficient. Any problems that arose were met with good solutions, and no ask was too big or too small. Ritvan is very methodical and orderly in his approach, and they were tidy and considerate throughout. I would use them again for any future work.

2. New Line Construction Ltd

- Website
- Address: 3 Shortlands, Hammersmith
- Contact: +44 7734 456436 / [email protected]
- Hours: Monday–Friday, 8 AM – 5 PM | Saturday, 8 AM – 1 PM
If knocking down a wall is part of the dream, New Line Construction Ltd looks well suited to the messy bit.
The team handles load-bearing wall removals, steel beam installations and full refurbishments across London homes.
I like that they don’t stop at the structural work either. Their bespoke joinery service covers fitted wardrobes, kitchens and other made-to-measure pieces, which is handy if you want the finished space to feel properly pulled together.
The company cites more than 15 years of building experience, with projects ranging from extensions to period-home renovations.
That breadth should appeal if your reno involves more than a fresh coat of paint and crossed fingers.
The main drawback is the six-month workmanship guarantee. For a major renovation, some homeowners may prefer longer coverage for extra peace of mind.

High-Quality Work with Great Communication
New Line Construction have been fantastic. I was looking around for a long time to find the right builder for our building refurbishment, including a brand new roof. When I came across these guys, they instantly gave me confidence that they were the right company for the job.
The work is now complete, and they were brilliant throughout: a strong work ethic, high-quality results, always flexible, and excellent communication at every stage of the project. I would strongly recommend them for any building work required.

A Big Renovation Completed Under a Tight Deadline
We reached out to NLC to help with works back in October when we bought our place. There was a lot to do: new bathroom, moving some walls, new floors, and then a long tail of other work. The hardest part: all this had to be done in UNDER TWO MONTHS so we could move in before Christmas! We were super happy to be able to achieve this.
No project is perfect, but they communicated really well throughout, taking questions and accommodating adjustments as they arose.
There were some snags, but the team were very helpful in resolving those towards the end of the project, and with a couple of aftercare visits in the new year.

3. Brent General Construction Limited

- Website
- Address: 49 Prout Grove
- Contact: +44 7472 2884398 / [email protected]
- Hours: Monday to Friday, 8 AM–5:30 PM, Saturday, 10 AM–2 PM
Brent General Construction Limited caught my eye for one reason straight away: roofing is clearly their comfort zone.
The team cites more than 30 years of roofing-industry experience, with work covering homes, commercial sites and larger properties.
I like that they offer drone surveys, which makes checking awkward roofs a lot less dramatic. Their services include flat roofs, green roofs, pitched systems, waterproofing and roof insulation.
The company now trades under a broader construction name, but its website still leans heavily towards roofing. That makes them especially appealing if your renovation has a substantial roof element rather than a purely interior brief.
The main drawback is Sunday availability. They’re closed that day, so weekend-only clients are left with Saturday for enquiries or appointments.

4. London Construction

- Website
- Address: 8 Essex Place, Chiswick
- Contact: 020 8960 8899 / [email protected]
- Hours: Monday–Friday, 9 AM – 6 PM (24/7 maintenance support)
London Construction feels like a good fit if you’d rather have fewer people to chase during a big reno.
Their design-and-build setup covers architectural work, construction and coordination with outside structural engineers.
I like that they handle both residential projects and commercial fit-outs, including restaurants. That gives them a useful range if your plans involve anything more ambitious than swapping cabinets and calling it a day.
They work across refurbishments, loft conversions and basement projects, with project management built into the process. For complicated London properties, that sort of joined-up approach can save plenty of back-and-forth.
The main drawback is office availability. General enquiries are limited to weekdays, although their maintenance support runs seven days a week.

5. Home Builder London Ltd

- Website
- Address: 73b Dartmouth Road
- Contact: 07473 463936 / [email protected]
- Hours: Monday–Friday, 8 AM – 5:30 PM | Saturday, 9 AM – 1 PM
Home Builder London Ltd feels like a handy pick if you want fewer trades to chase during a reno. The family-run team covers building work, decorating, plumbing, electrics, kitchens, bathrooms and joinery.
I especially like their more decorative side, with microcement and Venetian plaster available for walls and floors. It gives them a bit more flair than your average builder focused purely on bricks and basics.
They handle loft conversions and broader renovation work too, so there’s decent scope for bigger home projects.
Their one-contractor setup should appeal if you’d rather keep coordination under one roof.
The main drawback is weekend availability. They close at 1 PM on Saturdays and don’t open on Sundays.

Reliable Work and a Beautiful Finish Every Time
Leandro at Home Builder has worked for us several times, including emergency call-out and also more substantial projects. Great work every time. We had to replace our shower unit, and he helped us find tiles at reasonable prices and did a beautiful job. He also tiled our basement studio so well that when it flooded the following year due to a Thames Water burst main outside, the floor remained intact and as perfect as when it was plain. He is efficient and reliable and always cheerful. Home Builder are my go-to builders every time.

A Full Kitchen Remodel Done to a High Standard
Homebuilder London did a fantastic job on our kitchen remodel. We undertook a full gut and replacement, including underfloor heating, cabinet fitting, plastering, decorating, rebuilding the roof on our bay window, and complete electrical rewiring – all delivered to a really high standard.
The team were a pleasure to have around: professional, friendly, and always happy to help. They were also brilliant at coordinating with other trades, liaising seamlessly with the flooring, window, and worktop fitters to keep everything running smoothly.
Really impressed with both the quality of the work and how easy they were to work with.
