5 Best Violin Lessons in London for Building Strong Technique
Learning an instrument takes time and patience. It also takes the right teacher. With so many schools and private tutors around, choosing one can feel overwhelming.
A great teacher breaks hard techniques into small steps and keeps you motivated. But it’s hard to know who actually does that.
That’s why I put together this list of the best places to find a violin lesson in London. I looked at each option’s curriculum and schedule flexibility to help you find the right fit for your goals.

Address: Eastman Rd, Acton, W3 7YG
Contact: +44 20 8749 7218, +44 7501 975772 | [email protected]
Hours: Monday-Sunday, 8:00 AM – 11:30 PM
AB Music Academy has several branches across London and offers structured violin lessons for students at different levels, including graded exam preparation.
It also provides music theory assessments and GCSE music support, making it a strong option for students looking for a more comprehensive academic path.
Lessons are available through both private one-to-one lessons and group classes, with teachers placing an emphasis on building strong foundations from the outset.
Families can also combine violin with piano lessons or drum lessons under one roof.
However, the broad range of subjects and instruments may be less appealing to students looking for a highly specialised, violin-only school.
And with several London branches to choose from, families may need to compare locations carefully before deciding where to enrol.

My daughter enjoyed that first lesson hugely and we have been with the same teacher ever since.
I found AB Music Academy online when I was looking for a violin teacher to come to our home in North East London to teach my 12 year old daughter. They got back to me very quickly, taking the time to find out what my daughter’s needs and preferences were before suggesting a teacher who they felt would work for her. The trial lesson was arrranged very speedily. My daughter enjoyed that first lesson hugely and we have been with the same teacher ever since.

A coworker of mine booked them for home visits last year and loved skipping the rush hour commute after work. Their convenient matching system also works well for working professionals.
Since lessons can happen at your house, it helps that their tutors carry enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificates. You’ll also get complimentary interim progress reports throughout the year.
On top of that, they charge fees for late cancellations.

3. East London Piano & Violin Lessons with Kino Lee
Website: https://plee25.wixsite.com/kinoleemusiclesson
Address: Wager St, E3 4JR
Contact: +44 7506 106218
Hours: Friday-Wednesday, 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM
Kino Lee brings over ten years of teaching experience to her East London piano and violin lessons. She teaches in English and Mandarin, which helps bilingual families feel at ease.
To keep lessons enjoyable, each plan is customised to balance fun with steady progress. Her warm style helps students relax.
She also prepares dedicated students for major music exams.
For performance practice, annual student recitals in London and New York City give players a chance to perform for a live audience. That’s a great confidence builder.
Scheduling can be tight, though. As a solo instructor, her booking time can lead to conflicts, so students who want multiple faculty options might prefer a larger school.

She is passionate about music and also teaches in a way that makes me enjoy playing the violin
She is passionate about music and also teaches in a way that makes me enjoy playing the violin and keep being motivated to go on. She also gives opportunities to her students to perform in front of a small (and also larger) group to build confidence and share the music with others.

I came to Kino as a complete beginner – I’d never picked up a violin in my life. Nearly a year later, the progress I’ve made has been incredible. The lessons are always enjoyable and Kino is a fantastic teacher. Can’t recommend highly enough!

4. North London Music School
Website: https://northlondonmusicschool.com/
Address: University College School, Senior Branch, Frognal, Hampstead, NW3 6XH
Contact: +44 7752 380999
Hours: Monday-Sunday, 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM
North London Music School offers purpose-built facilities right in the heart of Hampstead, featuring twelve dedicated practice rooms and a 200-seat recital hall.
Staffed by instructors holding degrees from top conservatories, the school lays out clear violin pathways for both beginners and advanced players.
Lessons focus on core classical techniques like proper bowing and posture. This helps students explore a rich repertoire while preparing for formal graded exams in a fantastic, inspiring space.
The downside is that travel time is definitely worth weighing, as the Hampstead location makes for a long trek if you’re coming from South London.
Plus, students looking strictly for a violin-only environment might prefer a dedicated strings academy rather than a multi-instrument school.
