The 5 Best Psychiatrists in London Who Can Sort Out Your Mind Fast

  • Quality of Care: We reviewed London-based psychiatrists known for their evidence-based and effective treatments.
  • Professionalism: The psychiatrists must already possess years of expertise. They must also be certified and ethical to maintain their reputation.
  • Communication: Their staff must be approachable, responsive, and attentive to the patients’ needs.
  • Empathy and Compassion: We picked clinics known for offering a positive and non-judgmental environment, ensuring patients feel at ease during the sessions.
  • Facilities and Equipment: These clinics should be modern, clean, and well-equipped to cater to a wide range of patients.
  • Wait Times: There must be minimal to no delays in scheduling appointments, follow-ups, and similar needs.
  • Accessibility: We chose psychiatric clinics in a central location. It was a bonus if they were wheelchair-friendly, as well as had adequate parking and public transport access nearby.
  • Billing and Insurance: These clinics have upfront and straight-to-the-point billing practices.

As a single mum of two boys (and two pups), I have my work cut out for me. Of course, it’s quite fulfilling, but it’s also bloody exhausting. Sometimes, you just need a little bit of help, and I’ve accepted that’s okay.

One thing I make sure of is that my boys and I stay mentally healthy. While I tried my best handling everyone’s ADHD concerns alone, I realised this would be easier if I just called a pro—a reliable psychiatrist in London who can properly prescribe us meds.

Luckily, I have amazing friends who have referred me to several promising options. Here are some of the best ones we’ve considered so far.

How much do psychiatrists charge in London?

Psychiatrists in London will set you back between £350 and £800 for an initial 1-hour consultation, depending on the provider’s qualifications, healthcare type (National Health Service or private), additional sessions, and location.

Harley Street Mental Health has some of the best psychiatrists for comprehensive mental health support in the area. Many patients come here for ADHD and autism assessments, diagnostics, and therapy.

Their therapists begin with long and helpful clinical interviews that sound like gentle and guided explorations. They usually explain their medication and therapy planning in simple English so that patients would feel less overwhelmed.

It helps that they’re highly flexible with these, offering both virtual and in–person appointments. Many patients book these efficiently via next-day services.

But a former patient told us about the clinic’s high fees. While this is partly due to its prestigious location, we think expensive sessions may limit accessibility for some patients.

Pros

  • Offers diagnostics, therapy, and ongoing treatment
  • Has a multidisciplinary team of 10 clinicians
  • Provides virtual and in-person appointments
  • Accommodates next-day appointments

Cons

  • Pricier sessions

Professional, understanding, and caring

“I had an ADHD assessment recently with Dr. Emily. She was professional, understanding, and caring during the whole process. She responded to all my questions clearly. The process was speedy—I booked it on Friday for the following Saturday morning (please be aware there are a few questionnaires to be filled prior to the appointment!) and I received the full report on Sunday. I also needed an invoice, and I had a prompt response from Adam with everything I needed. Highly recommended!”

Incredibly helpful provider

“Dr Lindsay was an incredibly helpful provider, spending a lot of time and effort trying to really understand my situation, rather than applying a one-size-fits-all solution. I’d heartily recommend him to anyone!”

The Blue Tree Clinic is well-recognised in the UK, offering private therapy services to treat a wide range of mental health conditions.

Their ADHD Express Clinic is quite handy—you can get a diagnosis, report, and prescription (if required) within 2 weeks! Plus, the team can treat both children and adolescents with anxiety.

What sets them apart is their client-focused approach, which involves taking enough time to assess their patients. They even won the ‘Most Caring Mental Healthcare Clinic’ award from the GHP (Global Health & Pharma) Mental Health Awards in 2024.

However, a former patient we spoke to said they had difficulty getting a slot. While this is inevitable during peak periods, it’s best to reach the staff again after a few hours.

Pros

  • Offers private therapy
  • Efficient express clinic
  • Gives reports within 2 weeks
  • Can accommodate kids and adolescents
  • Won GHP’s ‘Most Caring Mental Healthcare Clinic’ award in 2024

Cons

  • Hard to book during busy periods

Compassionate and professional

“So happy to have found this office! Love the flexibility with virtual sessions and I am so grateful for the compassionate and professional care I continue to receive from the entire team at Blue Tree Clinic.”

-Ms. Ashley Roth, Google Review

The Giaroli Centre is a boutique clinic with some of the widest clientele we’ve seen. Its consultant psychiatrists and paediatricians provide diagnosis and treatment of ADHD, autism, and sleep problems for patients aged 4 to 63.

The staff here looks quite extensive. Apart from the psychiatrists, there are teams for management, enquiries and business services, PA (personal assistance), administration, and pharmacy to ensure all client needs are met.

One thing they do well is having an organised and evidence-based process. They use validated tools for autism or rating scales for ADHD to make in-depth evaluations via Zoom or in person.

Their detailed enquiry form makes these bookings easy. It asks all the important questions right away, yet it only takes around 5 minutes to finish.

Just note that, unlike other clinics, this one isn’t available on weekends. The staff doesn’t provide emergency services either.

Pros

  • Treats ADHD, autism, and sleep problems
  • Serves a wide client age range
  • Extensive support with multiple teams
  • Detailed 5-minute contact form

Cons

  • No weekend or urgent availability

Professional and knowledgeable

“Great team, very knowelegable clinicians. From booking to diagnosis and then treatment, the process was really smooth and thorough. My son, who is normally quite introvert, felt really comfortable from the very first session and Dr. Giaroli was really comprehensive and detailed in his assessment. I was rather anxious at the diagnosis but Dr. Giaroli went the extra mile, answering all my questions and pointing me toward some reading. Later on his team was also in touch with my son’s school and with their professionalism and knoweledge helped the school understanding my son’s needs and supported a bespoke education plan! Dr. Giaroli and his team are always happy to help and point us in the right direction. I wished I had accessed them much ealier!”

Caring, dedicated, and supportive

“I have brought three of my children to the Giaroli Centre and have had the very best of experiences. Dr Giaroli has kindly listened to us as parents and has made the children feel at ease during their assessments. He has gone the extra mile for our children and they would not be achieving to the level of which they are capable without his care, dedication and support to change lives. He really has changed my children’s lives and they lead happy and fulfilled lives. Thanks in part to Dr Giaroli. I cannot recommend the Giaroli Centre highly enough.”

Sloane Court is a highly accessible psychiatric clinic with transport links. It’s on a road leading south off Turks Row, a short walk from Sloane Square down Lower Sloane Street.

The team consists of highly experienced psychologists and consultant psychiatrists, all of whom currently work or have worked in specialist National Health Service mental health units.

We’re impressed that they can offer treatments in many languages. Notable ones are English, Greek, Mandarin, and French, catering to many patients worldwide.

They combine expert medication management with evidence-based psychotherapy to address many biological and psychological issues. Second opinions are offered for more complex or treatment-resistant cases.

But while the clinic is open 6 times a week, it operates shorter hours on Fridays and offers limited appointments on Saturdays. It’s also worth noting that the consulting rooms are down a flight of fairly steep steps with no wheelchair access.

  • Can be reached 6 days a week
  • Accessible location with transport links
  • Skilled team with National Health Service backgrounds
  • Multilingual psychologists and psychiatrists

Cons

  • No wheelchair access
  • Few Saturday slots

Exemplary care and support

It’s a long process, but my life has changed for the best, and I’m happy I was lucky enough to encounter such an amazing doctor. The whole experience was outstanding. The clinic is also responsive, helpful and clued in. Thanks all”
