The 5 Best Vets in London for Reliable Animal Care Services

Equipment Availability: I checked whether each clinic has advanced diagnostic tools on site. Quick access to Computed Tomography (CT) scans and ultrasounds means faster answers in an emergency.

Service Accessibility: I looked at opening hours and how easy each hospital is to reach. Overnight monitoring is a big help for late-night health scares.

Consultation Length: I compared how long standard appointments last. Longer slots let vets check your pet properly without rushing.

Pricing Transparency: I looked at how clearly each vet explains costs upfront. Honest pricing helps you plan before any big procedure.

A rescue puppy brought absolute chaos into my flat last spring. I hired a dog trainer right away to stop the constant shoe chewing and indoor accidents. Obedience lessons worked beautifully until a swallowed sock caused a midnight medical panic.

I spent hours frantically searching for an open clinic that would not charge a fortune just to walk through the door. That terrifying scare made me realise the absolute necessity of having a trusted medical team on speed dial.

That’s why I spent weeks visiting local surgeries and chatting with fellow pet parents. Here’s my list of the best vets in London.

How much do vets cost in London?

A standard vet consultation in London usually costs £60 to £90. Emergency surgery and out-of-hours care can push prices much higher, with visits starting at £200.

1. Medivet 24 Hour Camberwell

medivet-24-hour-camberwell-logo

Website: https://www.medivetgroup.com/24-hour-emergency-vet/24-hour-camberwell/#practice

Address: 7 Kenbury Street, Camberwell, SE5 9BS

Contact: 020 3710 0359 | [email protected]

Hours: Monday to Sunday, open 24 hours

Medivet 24 Hour Camberwell provides round-the-clock emergency care with on-site CT scanners, X-rays, and advanced surgical theaters.

I like that qualified vets and nurses remain on shift overnight, so emergency patients can receive continuous care rather than waiting for the morning team.

Having diagnostic imaging and surgery in the same facility is another advantage. When every minute matters, quick access to scans can help the veterinary team identify problems and move toward treatment sooner.

For additional peace of mind, you can also add the Medivet Healthcare plan. However, the coverage is limited to dogs, cats, and rabbits. That means owners of exotic pets won’t be able to use the plan.

The location is another consideration. Camberwell may be a long drive if you’re coming from the outer edges of the city, which could be difficult during an urgent situation.

Pros

  • Keeps qualified vets on overnight shift
  • Maintains advanced on-site diagnostic scanners
  • Features fully equipped surgical theatres
  • Offers an add-on Medivet Healthcare plan

Cons

  • Medivet Healthcare plan excludes exotic pets
  • Longer travel times from the edges of London

They were available 24 hours a day, kept me clearly updated.

They were available 24 hours a day, kept me clearly updated, answered all my questions and let me visit whenever I wanted. They worked all through Xmas and were amazing. Not only did they give Link perfect care and love, they saved his life! Thank you to everyone x

I can’t thank them enough

Kind, caring and helpful! My 3 months old kitten got sick and was hospitalised for 3 days. These guys are the best – from the receptionist to the vet. They have special rooms for you to hang out with your pet, and don’t make you feel like you’re asking to many questions (even when I called several times a day to check on my kitten). I can’t thank them enough

2. London Veterinary Clinic

Website: https://londonvetclinic.co.uk/

Address: 86-88 York Street, London, W1H 1QS

Contact: 020 7723 2068 | [email protected]

Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM

London Veterinary Clinic offers 20-minute routine consultations and has provided local care for over 50 years. I like that appointments aren’t rushed, giving me enough time to ask questions and properly discuss my pet’s needs.

Their care also extends to more complex cases. On-site specialists handle cardiology and neurology, while minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery is available when needed.

Nurse clinics cover everyday care tasks such as post-operative checks, nail clipping, and routine blood sampling

I also appreciate their approach to parasite control. The team creates tailored plans rather than automatically over-medicating pets.

The main consideration is emergency access. There is no in-house overnight emergency service for late-night crises.

Weekend scheduling can also be difficult because the clinic is completely closed on Saturdays and Sundays.

Pros

  • Schedules generous 20-minute routine appointments
  • Hosts specialists for complex surgical procedures
  • Tailors individual preventative parasite control plans
  • Provides convenient routine nurse clinic services

Cons

  • Lacks dedicated in-house overnight emergency cover
  • Remains completely closed throughout the weekend

Use the London Vet Clinic for your pet, you wont be sorry….

Would highly Recommend the London Vet Clinic.  All the vets & nurses are extremely caring and highly competent and I know my dog Archie is always in very good hands!  We have attended this clinic for years.  Archie always receives a very high level of care.  He is an elderly dog now and it is very important to me knowing that I can be confident he is given the utmost clinical care, attention and last but not least – given with love..

Use the London Vet Clinic for your pet, you wont be sorry….

3. Elizabeth Street Veterinary Clinic

Website: https://www.esvc.co.uk/

Address: 55 Elizabeth Street, Belgravia, SW1W 9PP

Contact: 020 7730 9102 | [email protected]

Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM; Saturday, 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM; Sunday, emergencies only (24-hour emergency cover)

Elizabeth Street Veterinary Clinic is an independent 24-hour emergency surgery owned and managed by experienced senior vets. I love that this setup gives the clinic a more personal feel while still providing round-the-clock emergency care.

The team handles routine dentistry and complex neutering surgeries. For major orthopedic procedures, a partner branch provides the necessary support.

I also like that their in-house laboratory can deliver blood results within minutes, which is useful when quick decisions are needed.

Critical patients receive close attention from permanent nursing staff who monitor them around the clock.

The clinic also provides dietary advice, microchipping, and other preventative care for everyday needs.

Weekend access is more limited, though. Sundays are reserved for severe emergencies, so routine appointments may need to wait.

Getting into Belgravia during busy periods can also add travel time when your pet needs urgent treatment.

Pros

  • Operates as an independent 24-hour surgery
  • Uses an efficient in-house diagnostic laboratory
  • Handles routine neutering and complex dentistry
  • Offers excellent dietary and microchipping support

Cons

  • Reserves Sunday hours strictly for emergencies
  • Central location risks annoying traffic delays

We would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a caring and trustworthy veterinary practice.

The team showed exceptional care for our dog Bowie, when he was very poorly and required round- the -clock treatment. The level of compassion, professionalism and dedication they provided was outstanding, and we always felt he was in the best possible hands. We are so grateful for the excellent care Bowie received. We would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a caring and trustworthy veterinary practice.

Highly recommend, my baby is safe at home with me now 🙂

So grateful to have come across this emergency clinic, they took care of my cat so well , reassured me and kept me informed about his health. Price is understandably steep as it is an emergency visit in the middle of the night however they offered payment plan which was great. Highly recommend, my baby is safe at home with me now 🙂

4. Blue Cross Animal Hospital, Victoria

Website: https://www.bluecross.org.uk/victoria-animal-hospital

Address: Sheppard House, SW1V 1QQ

Contact: 0300 777 1890 | [email protected]

Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM

What I really like about Blue Cross Animal Hospital in Victoria is that it offers a lower-cost option for eligible pet owners. Support is available to people who receive certain means-tested benefits and live within the hospital’s catchment area.

The hospital has actually supported local communities since 1906. Its services include heavily discounted surgeries and pet food banks, which can make ongoing care more manageable for qualifying families.

I also appreciate that the support extends beyond medical treatment. The team provides behavioural advice and allows repeat prescriptions to be requested online with home delivery.

They also help rehome stray animals and support pets when their owners pass away.

There are a couple of things to plan for, though. You need to register your pet before booking a standard appointment.

A mandatory consultation fee is also required when securing a booking, so the reduced-cost care isn’t completely free.

Pros

  • Provides heavily discounted emergency veterinary care
  • Allows convenient online repeat prescription requests
  • Runs supportive community pet food banks
  • Offers expert animal behavioral training help

Cons

  • Requires pet registration before booking appointments
  • Charges mandatory fees to secure a booking

Had a great experience last week at Victoria Blue Cross.

Had a great experience last week at Victoria Blue Cross. I brought in my cat, Scrapps, to be checked out because he was losing his fur due to an allergy. He was examined by Alex and another vet (I forgot his name, he has long hair!) and they really took the time to understand his medical history, examine him and come up with a plan going to help his allergy going forward. Thanks to you both. The receptionist team and dispensary team were helpful as well! Thanks to all.

Keep up the exceptional work.

Thank you Blue Cross, for listening to the plight of my six year old male cat, Blue.  You were able to see him within hours for an assessment, the result meant he required an emergency surgical procedure, he stayed in their care for two nights and has recovered well.  Bless you, Blue Cross, for the care you gave Blue.  Your service is a god send.  Keep up the exceptional work.

5. Veteris Shoreditch 24 Hour Animal Hospital & Urgent Care

Website: https://veteris.co.uk/24-7-emergency-care-at-your-door

Address: 51 Hoxton Square, N1 6PB

Contact: 0330 808 9066 | [email protected]

Hours: Monday to Sunday, open 24 hours

Veteris Shoreditch takes a different approach to emergency veterinary care. They start with registered veterinary nurse phone triage before sending a fully equipped doctor to your home.

I like that the triage team can assess problems such as breathing difficulties or severe trauma remotely before deciding on the next step.

When a doctor arrives, they bring advanced equipment to stabilise critical pets at home, which can be useful when transporting a sick animal is difficult.

The service also operates 24/7, so you can reach the team whenever a serious situation arises.

If overnight monitoring is needed, the team can also arrange a rapid hospital transfer.

However, Veteris only handles severe emergencies, so routine veterinary care isn’t available.

Mobile visits can also take longer during heavy rush-hour traffic.

Pros

  • Features instant registered nurse phone triage
  • Dispatches mobile vets directly to homes
  • Carries state-of-the-art mobile stabilization kits
  • Arranges rapid brick-and-mortar hospital transfers

Cons

  • Deals exclusively with severe medical emergencies
  • Faces potential delays during heavy traffic

Don’t know how to put our gratitude into a review, the Veteris team saved our dog’s life.

Don’t know how to put our gratitude into a review, the Veteris team saved our dog’s life. We brought our Bernese in on a Friday night, unknown to us at the time, he was in the early stages of stomach twist/GDV. From the moment we arrived, the team was incredible. He was examined immediately, and within 30 minutes, they had performed X-rays and ultrasounds, diagnosed him, received a second opinion confirming, and then into surgery shortly after.

She has a comprehensive care plan and is happy to be home.

Daisy was vomiting and had diarrhoea, and just wasn’t getting better. She arrived at Veteris at around midnight, and from the moment of arrival, the team did everything they could to make Daisy (and me!) comfortable. They explained everything that they were doing, as they were doing it. The updates came regularly, and early. After almost 24 hours in their care, my little girl is bright and energetic again. She has a comprehensive care plan and is happy to be home.
